Body Parts

August 14, 2009

Today I had a follow-up with the knee doctor to go over the results of my bone density scan.  The good news is, it looked pretty normal, so no need for action there.  The not-so-good news is that he doesn’t know what caused my right knee stress fracture, nor really what to do about it.  He gave me a prescription for some general knee physical therapy, and a followup MRI, but.. I have my doubts it’ll help.  I mean, I had the same pain a year ago, took a year off, and it came back.. so I don’t see why another month of taking it easy / PT will help.  But I’ll give it a go.

In other news, Monday was my last day of nursing.  So far it has been going just fine; Jack has some (cow’s milk) in the morning before breakfast and doesn’t seem to notice the lack of nursing.  It also means we change up the morning routine a little:  on weekdays, I got up and nursed him and, unless I was exceptionally tired, I’d take him downstairs and make his breakfast.  Now, we’re going to switch off every other weekday and I can stay in bed while Chris gets up!  Woo hoo!  Of course, this morning, it was Chris’s turn and Jack decided to sleep in til 8, so I was the one who did his breakfast anyway.  When it’s my turn he wakes up at 6:45.   What’s up with that?

It does mean however I’ll give up one of my weekend sleep in days, and let Chris either sleep in or get up and have some time to himself.  He doesn’t care about sleeping in as much as I do.

Photos are up for Hawaii and Twain Harte.  Some day, I will post videos, too.

Twain Harte

August 4, 2009

IMG_8429We just got back from our second (and final) trip for the summer, to Twain Harte.  Twain Harte is a small town outside of Yosemite.  My sister and her family have been going to the same cabin for 12 years, and this year we joined them and two other families.  The cabin is on a lake, and most days we went swimming.  Jack loved playing in the sand and wading in the water.  He also loved all the attention from everyone staying with us.

He did not however love sleeping so much.  One night he was up from 3:30 AM – 6 AM, and one night from 1 AM to 5 AM.  He has a lingering cough that keeps waking him up, plus he’s getting his molars.. who knows if that’s what was happening.  At one point on the worst night we just gave up and turned on the light in our room and let him read books in bed with us.  He was perfectly happy with that.

He’s communicating more and more.  He says “mama” now!  I mean, he’s been able to make that sound for a while, but now he actually means it (sometimes).  I love it.  (He started saying “dada” a little while ago.)  One of his bedtime traditions is that Chris will go to the top of the stairs and say “One.. two.. three.. Mummy, Mummy, Mummy!” for me to come up to nurse him (though the last few weeks I have just been bringing up a sippy cup of milk).  Anyway, last night he actually did the “Mama, Mama, Mama” part.  Too cute.

He also uses the more sign for “I want” and “again”; for example when someone was tickling him and stopped, he signed “more” for her to tickle him again.

And he can now make sounds for the following animals:  cow, snake, sheep, duck.

Pictures.. some day..!
