First Night Away

By cpearl

On Friday I had a milestone:  my first night away from Jack.  My sleep deprivation has been getting harder to cope with, and I finally decided I needed to do something.  So I asked some friends if I could spend the night at their house, and they said sure!

I fed Jack before his bedtime as I normally do, then headed over to their house.  It took me a while to fall asleep, but I probably fell asleep between 10:30 and 11, and slept until 7!  Of course, I woke up several times, but I went right back to sleep.

At 7 I got up and pumped…that was the longest I’d ever gone without feeding Jack (11 hours).  After that I tried to go back to sleep, but it was difficult.  I was pretty awake, for a change, and wondering how the night went for Chris and Jack.  I think I got another half hour or so, and got up at 9.

When I got home, Chris told me everything had gone just fine.  He fed Jack around midnight, and then Jack slept until 7!  I was very happy to hear Chris hadn’t had a rough night. And I don’t think Jack even noticed I was gone.

I felt great having gotten such good sleep, but I was still quite tired by the evening.  I guess one night of decent sleep isn’t going to cure 8 months of poor sleep.

I think I may do it again sometime.

Holy cow, that’s brave. I’m not sure I could do it — I freaked out yesterday when B’s mom disappeared for a while with Katie! (What did I think she was doing? Secretly baptising her in the bathroom or something? :P )

    :D

We must hang out when I get back, capiche?

Yeah, the first few times we left Jack with someone it was very strange.. but it’s getting easier!

    Definitely, let’s get together!

We went out to dinner tonight! Greg’s sister watched Heidi. We’d planned to be home in time to put her to bed, but Heidi got super tired about an hour ealier than normal…so Aunt Molly gave bedtime a try. What takes me approximately 45 minutes every night (settling, nursing, kissing, getting my hair pulled and eyes poked, etc.) took Molly 5 minutes (wrapping in a blankie, giving a hug). I think we’ll be going out to dinner again, soon!
