Milestones

Jack, sleeping at my parents

The last time I spent the night away from home with Jack, at my parents’, sleeping didn’t go so well.  That was a month and a half ago, and last week I decided to try again.  It was another heat wave and we escaped to the relief of the A/C at my parents’.  (It was 106 there.)

Success!  Jack slept from 8 PM to 7 AM and woke up twice to eat.  I’m so happy about it.  Now we can go on trips!  He even napped in there a few times.

Other milestones, for me and for Jack:

  • He can not only reach the bunny hanging above his baby papasan, today he pulled it clean off.  I didn’t even realize it detached…
  • I stopped taking Fenugreek.  Now I’m down to three pills a day:  Synthroid (which my doctor recommended I continue through breastfeeding); a vitamin; and fish oil.  I’m not sure how long I’m going to keep up the fish oil; my doctor recommended it as well for breastfeeding, but I don’t think there is solid evidence it helps.  This is down from my high of 18 pills day.. ugh.  That was in the first month:  8 Fenugreek, 4 antiobiotic pills per day for an infection, the three listed above, an iron supplement, a probiotic and another pill for a yeast infection.. and 3 cups of nursing tea.  Man, for someone who doesn’t even have Tylenol in the house normally, that is a lot of fricking meds.  And I’m glad it’s over.
  • I got my period again, after 4.5 months.  I was hoping it’d be longer, I know some women don’t get it the whole time they’re breastfeeding, but oh well.  When I first saw the blood I panicked.  For the 2.5 years prior to getting pregnant, seeing that first bit of blood every month was crushing.  While I was pregnant, I had some spotting, which was scary (turned out to be nothing serious).  Then I remembered, oh yeah, it must be my period.. no big deal!
  • He’s started to laugh.  I love that sound.
  • He can read.
  • Ok, that last one isn’t true.

Lots of milestones still to come.   Today I was giving him a bath and marveling that he now sits up in the bathtub and splashes and looks around, instead of lying in the bath sling and being very passive like he was in the beginning.  Soon enough I suppose he’ll be sitting up on his own… and then.. crawling… eek!

From the caption: “Jack, sleeping at my parents,” one would be lead to believe that your son sleeps with his eyes wide open and an adorable grin on his face! Congrats on having such an agreeable baby…

Ha! It’s all about the marketing spin, ya know…
